Birthday Fun

I love birthdays all the time, but we recently celebrated one that was a very big deal. It was Olive's first birthday, which is reason enough to celebrate big time, but it was also an anniversary of sorts for James and me. We have been part of the parents club for a year now. Crazy. We partied all week long. Olive and I went on a special outing each day of the week before the big day to celebrate. We got $3 cupcakes, went to the aquarium, painted party hats, and picked out presents at Toys-R-Us and Target. On Friday we went to the Mayan for dinner and on Saturday we went to the zoo. We really enjoyed all this pre-birthday fun leading up to the main event.

Sunday morning we decorated Olive's room. There were balloons everywhere and a pot of flowers on top of her big present. She loves flowers. She loves to pick them, and smell them, and destroy them. She really enjoyed a whole plant that no one was telling her to be gentle with. She was so excited when she crawled into the room and didn't know what to look at first.

On Sunday we had a party at Wheeler Farm. It was a lot of fun. Olive is very social, and loves to have lots of people around. She wasn't really into opening presents but she loved having everyone there and loved when everyone sang the Happy Birthday song.

We had birthday cake back at our house after the picnic. Olive was very tired by this time. We didn't know if she would be able to keep her eyes open long enough to have cake, but as soon her candles were lit and everyone was singing she got a second wind. She loved her cake!

It was a fun birthday. We better start planning for next year. Birthdays are a lot of work.
